Adam Herd

Adam Herd From Shadows cover

From sub-tropical NSW to sub-zero Scandinavian winters, Adam Herd has let music guide him to many corners of the globe. Originally from Coffs Harbour, Adam has travelled to South America, Great Britain, Europe and now back to Australia perfecting his classical piano repertoire.

For his undergraduate education Adam chose to study with Natasha Vlassenko at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music in Brisbane, turning down offers from both the Royal College of Music and Trinity College of Music in London, and a full scholarship to the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. In 2009 he graduated with First-Class Honours
in his Bachelor of Music in Advanced Piano Performance. He was also awarded the University Medal, Conservatorium Medal, and Music Medal.

Adam made his orchestral debut with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in 2007 and has performed at various festivals throughout Australia. In 2008 he was one of only five Australians selected to compete in the Sydney International Piano Competition. In 2009 Adam won first place in the Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition as well as being awarded the audience prize and concerto award. In the same year he received a Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarship to fund his post-graduate studies.

Adam is currently undertaking a Masters in Classical Piano Performance at the Sibelius Academy, Helsinki, where he is studying under Professor  Erik T. Tawaststjerna.

Adam is also studying jazz piano while at the Sibelius Academy, and in addition to his solo piano studies, enjoys playing alto saxophone, tin whistle, and chamber music in various forms. Despite the risk of injury to his fingers, Adam also enjoys playing many sports and, in his free time, can often be found surfing in his home town of Coffs Harbour.
